Karen Trotter, Chorus Director
Karen sang in school choirs throughout many (many) years of school and finally started singing barbershop in 1978 and never looked back. She has been a member of Harmony, Inc. since 1984 and has been Harmony Falls’ Director since January 1990. She has sung in many different quartets over the years, including the 1986 International Quartet Champions, Four in Accord. Currently she sings lead in A Touch of Treble quartet. Aside from directing Harmony Falls, Karen also sings with another Barbershop chorus, the Crystal Chords of Horseheads/Elmira and is the bass section leader there. Karen believes that comedy is the best kind of performance.
Janet Diehl, Assistant Chorus Director
Janet Diehl earned her Bachelor and Masters degrees from Ithaca College. She studied at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester for many years in the preparatory department and as a college freshman. Some of her teachers include John Thomas, Joseph Mariano Jean-Pierre Rampal, Robert Schmidt, David Berman and Shaul Ben-Meir. Ms. Diehl retired after 28 years teaching instrumental music in the Brunswick (Brittonkill) and Dryden schools. She played the flute professionally in the Albany-Troy area for many years and has taught flute privately for almost 20. She also plays and studies piano. Flute Choirs have been a passion for her throughout her teaching career as she organized and directed flute choirs as early as the 1970s. She is one of the three co-founders of “Fingerlakes Flutes”.
